ELECTRONIC HOUSE CALL - June 27, 1998

WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM YOUR STAFF TODAY . . . REVISITED
Just a reminder that if you cannot answer this question every day, you are not listening. If you are not listening, you are not learning. If you are not learning, you are not growing. If you are not growing, you will waste away.

One of the most potent things you can do is to listen -- really listen -- certainly to your guests but also to your staff. Most people don't listen, they just wait their turn to talk. (Some don't even wait!) If you listen you will learn. You might learn something you didn't know. You might get an insight into how that person sees the world. You might pick up an idea that sparks an entire new opportunity for your company. But first you have to get quiet and listen.

This seems to be a good time to clear out the e-mail file and pass along two questions I have recently received.

A WEIGHTY QUESTION
Joe Wagner owns Jackson Java in Jackson, MS, an espresso bar with quality espresso drinks and coffee. Someday, he would like to earn the Golden Cup Coffee Award. He sees his first step as correctly measuring his dosage. He is looking for a small digital scale that measures grams for under $100.00. Does anyone out there know where he can find one? Is there such a thing? If you have any ideas that might help, you can reach Joe at <jxnjava@aol.com>

YAY TEAM!
Steve Youngerman of Rockets Intergalactic Diner in Meridian, ID is looking for literature on team building in the outdoors. He knows of several companies that will do the training, but they are real expensive. If you have any suggestions, drop a note to Steve at <harrybar@cyberhighway.net>
