ELECTRONIC HOUSE CALL - August 7, 1998
Well, the European jaunt is about done and we leave for the US of A first thing in the morning. This has been an interesting adventure, not only for the trip itself but for the self-imposed requirement to come up with a daily insight that might have implications for the restaurant industry or for restaurateurs in general. If you have been following the daily diaries, you have already picked up on a few of these.
It just seemed to me that a recitation of places visited and things seen would be of limited value to my readers . . . and certainly of no value to me in the long run. The trick is not in what happened, but in what did you learn from what happened?
I have challenged you from time to time with the question, "What did you learn from your staff today?" but a bigger question might be, "What did you learn from your LIFE today?" When you can answer that question every day, you are really on your way!
