ELECTRONIC HOUSE CALL - June 23, 2000
A BLINDING FLASH OF THE OBVIOUS
Earlier today I was interviewing Molly Hancock, COO of Consolidated Restaurants for the August MIS tape. Molly started with Consolidated as a server while
she was in college. One day she mentioned to her GM that she had resumes out and had listed him as a reference. He told her that she had a natural talent and
passion for the restaurant biz -- why not consider a career in our industry? The idea had never occurred to her but she thought it over . . . and the rest is history!
My question is, how many talented people have you allowed to slip away from you simply because you failed to suggest that this is a "real job" that they could
be really good at?" Something to ponder.
BACK ON MY SOAPBOX
Here are some places to check out alleged viruses, hoaxes and stories before blindly passing them on to everyone on the planet. At the least, they make for some
good reading!

CAN YOU HELP?
Geof Waller <gwaller@bazillion.com> writes, "Here at The Old Spaghetti Factory we have put together a very good program for training our new employees;
we're only lacking in one area - training the trainers how to train. I am looking for some good materials to help me put together a program to train our trainers.
Books, videos, anything creative & FUN!" If you have any ideas, contact Geof with a copy to me.
DELIVER ME
Barry Wolfman <chris81463@aol.com> of Wolfman Pizza in Charlotte writes, "We are getting ready to add delivery to our 6 locations, currently doing dine in
& takeout only. I've never done delivery, and would like to know if there's a book or manual out there. I'm really not interested in hiring a consultant...I know it's
not rocket science (bad term, I know) but I would like to know the "must do's" and "must don'ts" of delivery. My searches have come up empty...can you point
me in the right direction?"
HERE'S LOOKING YOU UP, KID
Finally, this note from Lou Taverna in his Hospitality 1st newsletter
http://www.555-1212.com/ is arguably one of the best resources when a phone number contact needs to be researched. It provides a "reverse look-up" feature and some other tools that can help with your calling efforts. Another tool along the lines of "phone research" is the Fone Finder web site which allows searching by area code and prefix (a feature most phone look-ups don't have as a stand-alone option). If you find yourself needing it for personal/business use keep the following link handy (it works most of the time) http://fonefinder.net/primeris/fonefind/index.php3.
