ELECTRONIC HOUSE CALL - August 31, 2001

I am at home overlooking Puget Sound. It rains all the time -- don't move here! (This message sponsored by the residents of the State of Washington!)

WOW!
I am overwhelmed and very humbled by the many messages I received wishing me a swift recovery from my little "cardiac caper" of last week. By way of status, I am feeling terrific, working less, eating well (if a bit more carefully), taking my pills and walking at least half an hour a day. At this point, there does not appear to be a lot of real recovering to do, just the challenge to carry on with the changes that (have always) needed to be made.

I deeply appreciate the good wishes . . . and I am touched by the number of folks who indicated that my situation spoke to them in a way that may cause them to modify their own behavior, slow down, get a check-up or take some other life-preserving action. If my predicament can be the catalyst that contributes to someone else prolonging their own life, it will all have been worth it. Remember that the universe rewards action. Take some . . . and thank you all.

EARLY SIGN-UP DEADLINE
I am also encouraged by the number of folks who have already signed up for my new Coaching Program. The offer is a no-brainer of a deal . . . and you get a second free book if you sign up before September 10th, so you might want to check this out sooner rather than later. Just go to my website at www.restaurantdoctor.com and click on the link at the top of the home page to download a PDF file with all the info. If you would like to find out what is happening without having to log on, just e-mail me your name and mailing address. I will send you the package in mid-September (but you'll only get one free book then!) I am very excited about this new program that will start in October.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
You are working to make a living. Make sure you leave some time to live. -- Mac McLennan

PASS THE WORD
If you find that EHC contains a few gems of wisdom that our industry needs to hear, please pass the word to your colleagues -- you know, the ones you send a copy to from time to time. Folks can sign up on my website. Several companies have actually sent me the e-mail list for their managers and made the ideas in EHC part of their ongoing professional development discussions. As you may know, I have never actively promoted this e-letter to the industry and yet we have managed to grow to 2100+ subscribers strictly by word-of-mouth.

Lest you be concerned, I promise never to release the subscription list to any third party. While I occasionally slip in a special deal for subscribers, it is my intent to keep EHC free from blatantly commercial overtones. I also promise to keep observing the good, the bad and the ugly in our industry and calling it like I see it. A good rant every now and then is food for the soul!

That's enough for today. This is the Labor Day holiday weekend, at least for my US subscribers. Go enjoy yourselves. I am letting you off easy today . . . but I promise to challenge your thinking a little deeper next week.
