ELECTRONIC HOUSE CALL - December 28, 2001
I have just been working on my schedule for January and February and it looks like the quiet life at home is about to abruptly end! Look for me soon in a neighborhood near you!
WINTER ROUNDTABLES
The 2002 Hospitality Winter Roundtables will be held in Orlando on February 4-5 and in Las Vegas on February 9-10. You will note how I cleverly maneuvered
these gatherings into warmer climes, something my colleagues across the northern part of the country can probably appreciate right about now. I also arranged
for the airlines to offer incredibly cheap tickets to these destinations for the next week or two. Act now before the opportunity is lost forever!
I will be sending a PDF file with the details to my Coaching Program and Gold Group members tomorrow. If you are not on either of those lists and would like to find out more about the roundtables, you can download the file from my website at www.restaurantdoctor.com. If you are terminally lazy, just reply to this note and ask me to "Send it!" But time is of the essence, so act now before it slips your mind.
SUPER CONFERENCE
For planning purposes, the 2002 Super Conference will be held in Seattle on May 13-14. This first-ever event will feature industry consultant Bill Main and a
rare visit by Max Hitchins, Aussie marketing guru. I will be there, of course and additional speakers will be announced. I promise that this will NOT be your
typical hospitality conference! For now, just mark your calendar and start thinking about it. Subscribers to the Management Insight Series will hear Bill Main in
the January interview and I will soon be talking with Max on tape as well.
VIRUSES R NOT US
The message floating around that warns you to delete a file named sulfnbk.exe is a hoax. This file is on all computers running Windows and deleting it can
screw up your machine. Before acting on any such messages -- and certainly before passing them along -- check them out. In addition the the sites maintained by
Norton, Sophos and McAfee, my current favorite sources are http://www.VMyths.com and http://urbanlegends.miningco.com. In any event, you must have a
good virus protection software and remember to keep it updated.
NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS
Don't waste time promising to do things that you have never done before. It won't happen. Instead, choose some good things that you are already doing a little
and just do them a little bit more. Spend a little more time with your family. Take a little more time for R&R. Exercise just a little bit more. Lose just a couple of
pounds. Give yourself a break and set some simple goals that will start to move you in the direction that you want to go. The rest will be a lot easier.
SLOW DOWN. KNOW LESS. LEARN MORE
Whether we are talking about your guests, your staff, your mate, your kids, your parents or the guy at the dry cleaners, these three steps will make a big
difference in the way you see people . . . and the way they see you.
My very best wishes for a peaceful (and prosperous) new year!
