ELECTRONIC HOUSE CALL - November 29, 2002

I am finally off the road and at home pretty much through the end of the year. Travel is wonderful but it can be rather hectic during the spring and fall when it seems like everyone holds their meetings. I am looking forward to a little home time and a chance to get caught up on both the outstanding projects ... and some quality time with Margene. Even though the coming month is typically a hectic one for restaurateurs, I hope you will make some time for yourself and your family as well.

GRATITUDE IS POWERFUL
This is the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the U.S., a time to pause and give thanks for the bounty that we have received. Usually at this time of year I include a brief dissertation on those things I am thankful for. This year, I would like to turn that around and remind you to be thankful -- every day -- for your guests' patronage ... and make sure they know it!

Gratitude is more than just saying thank you (and we always have to say thank you.) But here is the thing to understandthe message you send is not communicated by your choice of words. In fact, the message you deliver is always contained in the FEELING behind the tone of voice you use.

Your words, while important, are only a vehicle that carries the emphasis, inflections and feelings bearing the message that others receive. To help make sure your intonation matches your intention when you are talking with someone, pause before speaking, clear your head of any distracting thoughts and allow yourself to connect with the other person. Then simply say what you need to say.

Good communication starts with cleaning up your internal state -- a process that is quite natural. When you start becoming aware of your distractions, you will automatically start the process of self-correction. You will be surprised and pleased by how clear your communication will become, how infrequently little misunderstandings will arise and how effective you will become at human relations.

ANYBODY WANT TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?
When I find a book that really strikes me, I pass that information along ... and I have one for you. It is called "The One Minute Millionaire" by Robert Allen and Mark Victor Hansen. Robert Allen is the guy who wrote the real estate best-seller "No Money Down" and Mark Victor Hansen is the co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books. Both these guys understand what it takes to make a million ... and they want to help a bunch of other people to do it too!

Their premise in writing the book is to create 1 million new enlightened millionaires which they define as people who tithe 10% of their earnings to support worthy causes in their communities and who accumulate money in such a way that everybody in the transaction benefits. Their book just came out in late October and is already a best-seller

This sounds too good to be true ... and it gets better. You can get the book -- for free! -- by clicking on the link below. Once you read the book, you will understand more about how this process works ... and how you can make it work for you as well. There is nothing wrong with hard work ... but there is nothing wrong with having money either, particularly if you use it for the betterment of others. If you don't get this for yourself, get it for your kids.
