ELECTRONIC HOUSE CALL - December 20, 2002
At this time of year, I suggest that your focus should be on your family, your faith and sharing warm feelings with your staff and guests. Accordingly, I won't clog your head up with business things to think about today ... but I couldn't let the day pass without giving you at least SOMETHING to think about.
So I pass along a message for the season ... and for every other time of year as well. Happy Holidays.
HELP ME REMEMBER ...
Heavenly Father, help me remember that the driver who cut me off in traffic last night may have been a single mother who worked nine hours that day and was
rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.
Help me remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly may be a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.
Help me remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slowly through the store aisles and blocking my shopping progress may be savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they'll go shopping together.
Heavenly Father, remind me each day that, of all the gifts you give me, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those I hold dear. Also open my heart to all humanity. Let me be slower to judge ... and quicker to forgive, show patience and have genuine empathy.
THE PERPETUAL QUESTION ...
What did you learn from your staff today.
