The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
Nolay Undercover

My home away from home is rapidly becoming the Festival des Pains and the wonderful smile of Elisabeth. We survive each morning on her quiches and each afternoon on her apple tarts. (Actually her husband Thierry is the one who makes all this but he seldom comes out to the front of the store).

Remember Cafe de France, the place I though looked so cool from the outside and wanted to visit before we left? Well, this afternoon Margene and I dropped in for an afternoon break on our walk ... and I was stunned! I expected something with classic character and instead we got 60's kitch. If the inside and the outside of a place are not congruent, there will be disappointment every time.

I got a chuckle from the sign on the lane that went behind the church. The rest of the photos are not for any particular purpose other than to give a feel for what you find on the back streets of a place like Nolay. Makes me want a place with a barn!
