The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
La-Charite-sur-Loire

La-Charite-sur-Loire is a medium-sized town on the banks of the Loire River in western Burgundy. The river is running very full and fast (and very COLD!) at the moment -- pretty to look at but rather scary at the same time. The town dates back to the medieval times. In fact, Joan of Arc and her army attacked the battlements here in 1429. Fascinating stories!

The historic center of La Charite has all the charm and small town vibe ou would expect of a classic French village, highlighted by some clever holiday decorations. (Those are dozens of gilt-wrapped presents above the door of one of the shops on the main street). The boulangerie on the corner is a welcoming site in the pre-dawn chill of an early winter morning. Gotta love the idea of fresh croissants on a cold day.

Margene quickly decided it was a good day to sit by the window (and the heater!) with a good book. In the evening we walked around the corner and joined Byron and Kelly Harker for a pleasant evening of cocktails and conversation.
