The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
The Streets of Nolay

We are in our vacation mode. Sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast, take time getting organized ... then wander out for lunch and a few hours of wandering about. Take the off to nap or read or whatever, then give some thought to dinner.

Does it mean that we don't get around to see as many buildings? Of course. Does it allow us to better experience the pace of life in another culture? I think so. I admit our first few trips across the pond were more of the go-go/see-it-all sorts of trips.

You should certainly see the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame if you are in Paris or visit the Colosseum and the Vatican when in Rome, but get it over with so you can spend more time getting a sense of the people.

And always go with the understanding that you will be back so you can see what you missed on the next trip. Sooner or later you will be wrong about the return, of course, but in the meantime you will have a totally different travel experience.
