The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
May 10 - Odds and Ends of the Day

Chinese Weddings: The hotel has a lot of them, sometimes two a day.

Marv & Miao: How can we begin to show our appreciation of our companions on this trip? It is no understatement to say that without them, the trip itself would simply not have happened! Certainly it would not have been as easy on us.

Our Friendly Neighborhood Shopping Street: There is a slice of life on the pedestrian street next to the hotel. Lots of restaurants, enough women's clothing to stock a dozen malls ... but those are not the real surprises. The fun comes from running into Mickey & Minnie look-alikes or watching a woman working on silk cocoons for products that she will make in her shop -- not as a gimmick, but just because that's the way she does it. It is even doing battle with the vendors in the assemblage of arcade-like stalls. It always reminds me of going to the carnival when I was a kid!
