The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
May 11 - Last Day in Guilin

We have had some chuckles at the Chinese translation of English. Here are a couple of clothing shops along the pedestrian shopping street to add to the "Huh?" list.

The afternoon was a time for "lasts" -- a last pizza on the pedestrian street, a last bit of people-watching (this is a great place for it, particularly on a sunny afternoon) and, of course, Margene couldn't pass up one last bit of shopping!

Marv and Miao took an evening cruise around the lakes and rivers of Guilin but we opted for a light dinner at the hotel, some packing and an early bedtime. We hadn't planned on watching the waterfall "show" again, but when we saw that they had the fountain operating tonight, we thought it was worth one more look. It was.

Tonight they seemed to be handling the water spill down the side of the building in a better manner, too. The first night it seemed like just a steady flow. Tonight there were more" waves" (variations in water flow) than there were the first night. I found this look to be a lot more visually interesting. I just wish they would close the road to traffic while the show is on. There were cabs and big busses pushing their way through the crowd which was disruptive if not downright dangerous ... although physical danger does not seem to be a preoccupation of anyone in China, at least on the highway.
