The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
December 9 - Dinner at Casa Turire

The dining room at Casa Turire looked especially inviting to us after our dinner last night in Dominical ... and it delivered on its promise!

It was nice to see plates with some sense of presentation. I had the lomito (beef tenderloin) wrapped in bacon over fried plantain with fried yucca fritters. Awesomely tender and an interesting combination of flavors! It seems that a common problem with Costa Rican beef is not the quality, but that so few people know how to cut it properly or have an appreciation of the need for marbling. As a result, much of it is flavorful but tough. Margene went for the half order of spaghetti carbonara. They even made that look good in a simple sort of way and she said it was the best she had ever had. If this is the half order, I'd hate to see what the full portion looks like!
