The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
December 13 - Cafe de Artistas

This place reminded me of the little hippie coffehouses that were all over San Francisco when I lived there (back in another life). The food was excellent and reasonably priced, they had some awesome baked goods (that we reluctantly passed on) and in general was just a nice place to hang out. The dermatologist's office was in the front right cornerback of the compound and in the back is a mosaic art studio. It almost seems out of place, nestled a few blocks off the main drag in a residential area but that also provided a feeling that you had escaped the noise and bustle of the city ... at least for a few minutes.

Motorcycle delivery seems to be popular with local restaurants. Many of the places we have visited seem to have a similarly-equipped bike sitting in front. I'm not sure what they do in the rainy season ... probably just ride on through it. Bagelmen's has effectively become a home away from home for a lot of American ex-pats. In addition to a wide selection of bagels and sandwiches, they also offer free wi-fi, a book exchange and lots of comfy seating. Am I the only one who finds this statue of Colonel Sanders a bit creepy?
