The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
Bordeaux/Saint-Emilion

It has been a looonnnggg day! We left Seattle at 8:40 yesterday morning and finally made it to our B&B outside Saint-Emilion about 3:00 today. Flying business class made it a little less painful but by the time we got here, we were dead tired and overdue for a shower and come clean clothes!

We were supposed to arrive in Bordeaux around noon-ish but there was a minor glitch. We were heading up the escalator from the Air France lounge to catch the flight from Paris to Bordeaux. I was in front with all the bags -- a rolling bag with one on top in front of me and another rolling bag in hand behind me. Margene was following a few steps back.

The front bags were a bit too far forward and the front edge of the bottom bag got tipped back by a rising step. The stack then fell backward onto me. With both hands full, I lost my balance and fell backward over the other bag. All of this jumble hit Margene who went down backward on the steps, whacking her head pretty hard on the steel treads.

The Air France staff were superb. They got us unpiled and took Margene back into the club while they called the medical team. Suddenly she had eight EMT-types swarming around her. They did what they could and didn't thing there was any serious injury, but just to be safe, we were piled into an ambulance and driven across the tarmac to the airport dispensary where a doctor spent an hour looking her over

He finally giving her a clean bill of health -- no concussion, no apparent injury -- a few Tylenol and a warning to take it easy for the next day or so. I don't think that will be a problem!
