The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
Branne Market

We went with Maureen to the market in Branne, a few miles up the road. It is small but she swore by the quality of the products. It was mostly a food market and Maureen was here to do a lot of her weekly shopping, so a serious rolling bag was just the ticket! There were a few booths selling clothing but the wooden shoes were a first for me. Apparently you buy a pair of slipper-like things to fit your feet and they then fit inside the wooden outers.

Markets are half commercial and half social, it seems. Maureen knew all the vendors and it was like a gathering of old friends. Very pleasant ... and delightfully different from a supermarket experience. Once again, hospitality and personal connection make all the difference!
