The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
Professional Research is Rough

As we wandered into Saint Emilion, We were drawn to the ruins of what I suspect was an old abbey -- or at least the ruins of its cloisters -- and were delighted to discover the outlet of a local vinyard that specialized in sparkling wines. We bought a bottle of their sparkling rose, found a spot in the shade and gave it a serious technical evaluation. Our conclusion was that we should buy another bottle to take with us!

The sun was shining, and what better place to have lunch than under an umbrella on the central plaza? We shared a variety of dishes -- mussels in a garlic sauce, frites, an omelette, a large bruschetta and ... the big surprise hit ... a pizza with foie gras and smoked duck! Bet you've never tried one of those! Add a bottle of chilled rose (in an unusual "bucket") and you have the makings of a lovely lunch. Eric and Heidi were loving it ... as were all of us!

I included the shot of the sidewalk sign just because I thought it was a cool graphic.
