The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
Out and About

By the time we got our tickets to the Lascaux Cave (around 12:30), we had a minor logistic issue. You must go into the cave as part of a tour and the next tour in English wasn't until 3:00. The obvious answer: wander around town and find a cool place for a long lunch.

We ended up lunching under the green awning along the river in a little cafe where the food was attractively priced and very well-prepared. I needed to scratch my pizza itch and opted for a small white sauce pizza with roquefort, lardons (like a chunky bacon) and an egg. The combination was exceptional! Follow that up with a scoop of obscenely dense dark chocolate glacee (ice cream) and we were ready to go underground.

The Lascaux II cave is in a lovely forested setting up the hill from the town on Montignac. Photography is not permitted inside the cave so I had to pick a few pictures off the Internet to show you some of the artwork on the roof of the cavern. Even though it was a replica of the original, the effect was impressive.
