The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
The House, The Views

Like many of the towns along the Dordogne, Beynac is built up the side of a cliff, dominated by a fortress. In this case, the castle is Chateau de Beynac. The defensive posture was necessary -- initially to defend against marauding Vikings, later for protection during the Hundred Years' War with the English.

The house was the original town post office. The owners of the house we rented in Sarlat used to live here when they had a restaurant in Beynac. The place is very comfortable and well-equipped.

The building has four floors, with a bedroom on the garden level, a great room on the second level and bedrooms on the top two floors. Every room has its own floor with its own bath ... and as you can see, the rooms are huge!

Views? Did I mention views? Life here is focused on the river and we see it from every room in the house! The photo through the window (top right) is what I am looking at as I type this. But I gotta go. It's time to gather for evening wine and munchies on the terrace.
