The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur Down Under
October 26 - Sydney
I'll try to get a better picture of this place tomorrow, but these little DeliFrance sandwich shops are all over downtown Sydney. This one is in the Queen Victoria Building. The operation has similarities to a Subway except that they use baguettes, have an interesting array of other french breads and desserts and generally offer a higher level of finish than the typical formica and flourescent sandwich operation we see in the US.
It makes me wonder how many ways there are to re-invent or re-package formats that our guests are already familiar with. Perhaps its not that markets are saturated - it might just be that concepts are saturated. I think there is always room for something fresh!
