The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur Down Under
November 3 - Belgrave, Victoria
Just so you don't think that this is all play and no work, here I am deep in research on the deck of our little cottage in the jungle! (Actually, I am reading a book on the early history of Australia that is just fascinating!)
For dinner we tucked away to the Micawber Park Tavern (est. 1923) for a surprisingly good meal. Perhaps it is because this area is a favorite retreat for Melbournites, the menu was quite interesting - quite a shift from our last visit when it seemed like every menu in the country was featuring Veal Parmesan! The place is very pub-like with a delightful outside garden area where they do a brisk business in wedding receptions. In fact, judging by the signs along the roads, half the operations up here seem to make their living off wedding receptions!
