The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur Down Under
November 3 - Belgrave, Victoria

After a few false starts, we finally found the Glen Harrow Cottages, a historic area on the site of a turn-of-the-century experimental agricultural station. According to the story, they brought two each of thousands of plants from around the world and planted them here to see how they would fare. Rumor is that 80% of the root stock of the Melbourne Botanical Gardens came from here.

Our little cottage is tucked into the bush amidst towering tree ferns, rhododendrons and hundreds of other plants far less familiar - at least to me. The air is filled with the cries of kookaburra, cockatoo, magpie and tree frogs (among other critters). This is definitely a serious change of pace!

There is a small but fully equipped kitchen with all the fixings for a serious breakfast. The living room features a canopied bed and a wood-burning fireplace. The bath even has a jacuzzi tub. I love roughing it!
