The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur Down Under
November 4 - Belgrave, Victoria

I guess we just are not city people. We thought about heading back into Melbourne today and decided another day in the bush felt like a better choice. I spent the morning with Lou Hesterman (our host) trying to locate a source for HJT Liqueur Muscat, an exceptional wine we had fallen in love with the last time we were here. Alas, the winemaker has moved on, the winery has sold all the old stock and nobody has been able to produce anything close to the old HJT, so an era has passed.

Having come up empty, Lou and I did the next best thing - research! We went to one of the larger wine shops in the area, bought the best three muscats we could find and had a tasting . . . in the parking lot! The winner was a Morris Liqueur Muscat and I duly snapped up their remaining stock. I am going to have some HEAVY bags on the way home!

We wandered about in the afternoon, getting a feel for the area around here, then invited Bridie and Marg to join us for dinner. (Lou was playing a benefit concert in the area and couldn't make it.) We had a delightful lunch and an OK dinner. More discussion on the restaurants of the Dandenongs is included below.
