The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur Down Under
November 5 - Melbourne

John Carlson, in addition to being a full Professor and director of the Centre for Rehabilitation, Exercise and Sports Science at Victoria University, is also a wine aficionado. The samplings for today (all excellent) included a Jamieson's Run Chadonnay from Coonawarra, South Australia, a Chateau Tahbilk Marsanne from Victoria, a Tuck's Ridge Chardonnay from the Morningston Peninsula below Melbourne and an exceptional Bowen Estate Shiraz from Coonawarra, South Australia.

We went to dinner at Sails, a restaurant right on the beach near their home. Margene stayed with seafood (local scallops and oysters) while I tried kangaroo for the first time! It was very lean and tender with a very nice flavor. The restaurant did a great job with plate presentation. The photo on the left shows a seafood platter for two. On the right, of course, are John & Patty Carlson. What a wonderful way to spend our last night in Australia!
