The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur Down Under
November 7 - Coromandel

Surprise, surprise. We went into the little town of Coromandel for dinner. At the suggestion of our B&B hosts, we went to the Peppertree Restaurant (their future daughter-in-law works there) and had what may prove to be one of the best meals of our entire trip . . . and we have been eating well! Margene had a plate of the local scallops that she claimed literally melted in her mouth.

I opted for the snapper. It was served over rice with a creamy sauce of wasabi and garlic, blueberry, banana, grapefruit and habanero chilis! I wouldn't have thought up the combination but it was an exceptional blend of flavors. If I hadn't had so much to eat on this trip, I would have ordered a second plate of it! How adventurous is your kitchen being these days?

Since New Zealand is noted for its Sauvignon Blancs (and since that is my favorite grape anyway), I had a few glasses of Montana Vineyard Reserve Sauvignon Blanc that was a perfect match for the fish. There is a God!

Since ours is a one-on-one business, I need to acknowledge Mira (the daughter-in-law-to-be) who not only took good care of us, but had fun doing it . . . and made the evening that much more enjoyable. I am learning (too late for this shot) that you can't get too close with a digital camera or the flash washes out the picture. But since I told Mira I was about to put her on the Internet, I feel I should keep my promise, even if the picture does not do her justice.
