The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur in Europe
July 29 - Versailles to Loire Valley

Today was not a restaurant day. We picked up wine, cheese and bread in some little shops in Versailles before heading off this morning. The morning was spent on the grounds of Versailles at Le Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon (a few more smaller castles on the grounds!) then off to the Cathedral at Chartres. An awesome building . . . and an awesome place for a picnic! (Which raises the question: on those wonderful summer days when people want to enjoy the sun and eat lunch outside, do you offer them an easy way to do that and still spend their money with you? Are you taking advantage of picnic season the way you might?)

This afternoon we arrived in Chisseaux, a little village along the Cher River (no comments, please!) just down the road from the Chateau at Chenonceau. I will show you pictures of that tomorrow. Tonight it is dinner with our host family and perhaps a little sleep. I wonder sometimes if we don't work harder when we are on vacation than we do when we are at home!
