The daily diary of two wandering souls in Europe
July 31 - Chenonceau, Chanteloup

Chateau de Chenonceau

This is the Chateau de Chenonceau, built across the River Cher in several stages, starting in 1556. During WWII, when the Cher River marked the boundary between occupied France and free France, the Chateau was the site of many prisoner exchanges.

Chateau de Chanteloup

We are now in Burgundy, staying at the Chateau de Chanteloup. This one has been in the family since the 1500's (it was built on top of the ruins of the original house built in the 1200's!) and is fairly basic in comparison to some of what we've seen so far.
