The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur in Europe
August 1 - Burgundy

La Rochepot kitchen

On the food front today, I wanted to share a smuggled shot of the kitchen at the Chateau La Rochepot, built by a returning Crusader, probably in the 1100's. The kitchen range was added around the turn of the century when the place was restored, but you can still get a feel for the room.

Auberge de la Coquille, Vezelay

We had dinner in this restaurant, located in the hilltop fortress town of Vezelay in Burgundy. We ate upstairs in the "new" part of the restaurant (the new part was built in the 1700's). The downstairs dates from the 1100's! Other than that, there was a lot you would recognize -- too many people trying to do too many things in too small an area -- just like any other restaurant!
