The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur in Europe
August 4 - Amsterdam

Restaurant Marienberg Marlous

For dinner, we went to Restaurant Marienberg, a local spot in IJsselstein located in an old abbey. The building was originally built in 1495 and serves a mid-priced menu featuring local stew dishes. Our waitress/manager/entertainer was a delightful Dutch woman named Marlous Luiten. I was taken back slightly by her flawless, accent-free English. Turns out she has just returned from a year or so in Toronto where she was pursuing her music career. Their loss is the restaurant industry's gain!
