The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
April 23 - Lunch in Cortona
We stayed just outside Cortona for a week last year so it was pleasant to return. I am recycling some of the photos we took then to give you a feel for the town.
The Taverna Pane e Vino (tavern of bread and wine) finally took us in and provided a very pleasant lunch of local specialties ... and some very unusual presentations. I had the pici (a thick, hand-rolled spaghetti) with anchovies and chilis. Others in the group tried the pasta with smoked goose breast in a cream sauce, pasta with walnuts and radicchio and ribbolita, a Tuscan vegetable soup made with white beans and bread.
There was a market going on in town while we were there which I am sure contributed to the congestion.
