The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
May 8 - Menerbes

Menerbes was where Peter Mayle wrote his famous book, A Year in Provence. It was a small hill town with a nice feel to it, even though the success of the book has made it more of a tourist destination.

I always love these archways. If you could look over the wall, you would see that this is the top of an old tower. What its original purpose was is anyone's guess.

A view over the wall at the top of town shows how the town tumbles down the hill. I was surprised to see several caves dug into the limestone that the town sits on. I wonder how old these are ...

At the top of town, as always, was a fortified chateau, now a private residence. This classic building houses the mayor's office.

The doors in these medieval villages seem to tell tales of days past. We could fill a book with them.
