The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
December 1 - Lunch by the Tracks

Our first thought for lunch was at a nice-looking bistro/bar by the river. However, it was more bar than bistro, meaning that the menu was limited to a few sandwiches. We decided to return to a hotel dining room we saw when we were looking for the tourist office. Of course, the tourist office was closed from noon to two, so we never did have a chance to ask them about gites in the area.

There is no surprise that the Hotel de la Gare is located right at the Montbard train station (gare = train station). Their dining room was very light and airy with a decent menu at fair prices.

I opted for the hamburger patty with a fried egg on a bed of shredded potato (think hash brown patty). The fries were good but I suspect that like most restaurants, they served a larger portion than they costed for. Margene's quiche lorraine had a simple but attractive presentation.
