The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
December 4 - The Road to Geneva

We took the road through the Alps to Geneva rather than chickening out and taking the route of tunnels. The road was winding and often snowy, but there was no snow or ice on the pavement, so it was a picturesque ride. Here are a few shots snapped from the car along the way ... that in no way do justice to the scenery!

We are staying with Michel and Monique Sommer, members of the Affordable Travel Club. Their house is a lovely little chalet that they built about ten years ago.

Breakfast is a welcome part of the package when staying with travel club hosts. Michel and Monique have a company in Geneva that teaches French to foreigners. While we were there, they also had their two grandsons -- Valentin, 6 and Manuel, 2½ -- for about ten days while their daughter and husband moved the family from Geneva to France. I suspect if they had known that the kids were coming they wouldn't have volunteered to host us, but we appreciate their hospitality and insights into the local goings-on.
