The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
December 5 - Dining Around Geneva

Lunch in Annecy. Much of the old town has these covered porticos. Since it was raining rather steadily, we used them ... delightfully ... as cover. They also hide some pleasant little restaurants, including this one. We were the only people in the place, so I hope they had an earlier lunch rush. Once again, Margene's taste went toward Italian, this time the tagilatelle carbonara. I tried to do something at least partially French (other than drinking their wine) and went for the entrecote (small steak). This was a complete Mom & Pop sort of operation with Dad in the kitchen, Mom at the cash register and the son waiting tables.

Dinner in Nyon at the Restaurant Le Menan. This was a very nice-looking, comfortable sort of place where you could be appropriate dressed up or, as we were, in jeans. We started with a plate of carpaccio-like beef before attacking an excellent cheese fondue. Good food, good wine ... and VERY good company!
