The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
December 10 - Around Southern Umbria

We have thoroughly enjoyed our time at Il Gelsomini. We have the entire second floor while our hostess, Francesca, lives on the ground level with her mother. In addition to being an excellent cook, she is a playful spirit. After meeting her mom, I can see where she gets it.

What would a day in Italy be without a romp through a local market? The day was sunny but windy and Margene was craving a warmer coat. Alas, we didn't find anything we couldn't get for a comparable price in the US. However, you can see how extensive some of the offerings are.

On a sunny but chilly day, what else to do but fire up our trusty little Alfa Romeo and deplete the diesel level? Here are a few shots around southern Umbria. The photo that looks like a lake is really a river that has flooded its banks. There is a lot of that going on in the country right now.
