The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
April 29 - Dijon

We grabbed a quick lunch at a local brasserie near the cathedral. Limited menu, nothing fancy ... but a fair value for the price. After topping off a couple of crocks of Dijon mustard at the Maille shop (they fill the crocks from a tap just like drawing a glass of draft beer), the ladies were seduced by a local patisserie. With a spread like this, who wouldn't be seduced?

We returned to Chateauneuf-en-Auxois for dinner, this time to a small family-run creperie. The owners were very friendly and made us feel very welcome, the best personal connection we have found in a restaurant so far. I cannot fault the food or the portions but the dining room could have benefited from a more guest-friendly lighting source than fluorescent bulbs! Perhaps it is the result of high utility costs but for my tastes, the harsh lighting level detracted from the experience.
