The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 12 - Wandering through Sarlat

There is not that much here in the way of a specific attraction, but the old town itself is enough. Just suck in the flavor of the ancient stones and narrow, winding alleys.

Looking a lot like a medieval spaceship, the conical structure on the left is known as The Lantern of the Dead. Tradition has it that in the Middle Ages, a flame would glow from this tower to mark a cemetery where big shots were buried. Some of the stone work is exceptional. I do think that this hotel might want to re-think the location of its entrance, though!
