The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 17 - Carcassonne

We flew to England from the city of Carcassonne, one of the best- preserved walled cities in France. There has been rather extensive renovation in the town itself -- done a hundred years ago by a man ... without a plan ... who had no idea what medieval buildings looked like. The ramparts, however, are original. The old town itself still has a certain charm but it is the walls that make the city unique. Since we didn't see much of anything else today, you get a few extra pictures of Carcassonne.
