The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
February 14 - Dinkelbuhl and Rothenburg

It seems like every restaurant posts their specials on a board in front of the place. While my German is primitive, it seems like every place was offering about the same items at about the same prices.

This place caught our eye for lunch, not for the menu they had posted but because of a photo of the dining room. You can see that it is an ancient cellar -- more like a cave. Still, you need a point of difference that your market can identify if you want to stand out from the herd.

Annaliese recommended a roadside gasthof in a small town on the outskirts of Rothenburg. The place was friendly, the food was quite good and the prices were very reasonable. It also seemed like half the people in the place knew Annaliese!
