The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
January 31 - City Palace

The one sight worth seeing inside the walls of the Pink City is the City Palace. It was originally the residence of the Maharajahs of Jaipur. The ruling family still lives here, but most of the grounds have been turned into a museum. (Admission is 25 rupees for Indians, 300 rupees for foreigners! What's up with that?) One of the buildings is a sales venue for local craftsmen and once again Margene was making large piles in the fabric section! The City Palace has some very cool doors ... and according to the Guiness Book of Records, two of the largest silver objects in the world. Personally I always appreciated a nice pair of jugs (although five feet high is a little over the top!) It appears that it was very, very good to be the Maharajah!
