February 4 - The Ranakpur Temples & Devi Bahwan
The Jain Temples at Ranakpur are supposed to be the best example of the complex craftsmanship of the Jain sect. Every inch of every surface seems to be ornately carved with exquisitely detailed figures. The symbolism of it all is beyond me but the overall effect is mind-numbing.
Our home in Jodhpur is the Devi Bhawan, a group of free-standing buildings in the middle of a lush garden. Our digs provided a lot of room for an overnight stop, but we will be back here in a couple of days and are hoping to snag the same room a second time. With tourism down so much, the odds should be in our favor.
