The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
February 5 - On the Road to Jaisalmer

Life along the road to Jaisalmer held a few surprises. Traffic was stopped along the main road at one point for some sort of a celebration involving dancers and Border Security Force soldiers on camelback. Udai, our fearless driver managed to sneak us past it all eventually, but it was a nice break in the trip. Udai takes his job seriously and is constantly making sure the car is in showroom condition -- very refreshing after seeing the condition of some of the vehicles for hire. The glue that has held us together on this trip is Kingfisher beer! Sometimes nothing but a cold beer will do the trick and not only is it a tasty brew but it doesn't carry any of the potential dangers of the local water supply.

A quick look at beautiful downtown Jaisalmer, mostly from the roof of our haveli. We are, in fact, right in the middle of what action there is in town and it has been a great spot for people-watcing.
