The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
February 6 - Jaisalmer, The Golden City

This is our one full day in Jaisalmer and there are places to see and things to do lest we turn into total slugs. The first stop was to wander through the Golden Fort. There are a lot of spectacular forts in Rajasthan but this is the only one that has been continually habitated. So it offers not only a slice of history but a slice of life as well.

We explored the area around our hotel, met the Prince, and gathered our energy for the obligatory camel safari in the desert. All of these tales are better told in pictures, so I will refer you to the photo gallery.

We have enjoyed the trip but are starting to miss our friendly "rut" at home. Perhaps it is a hankering for familiar foods or water you can drink out of the tap (even the locals won't do that here) but I notice that we are doing a little countdown on how many nights we have before we head for home. There is so much to take in that I doubt we could absorb it all in several lifetimes. I'm sure glad we managed at least a taste of it.
