The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
February 7 - Jodhpur, The Blue City

We only have one more night left before we leave India, a thought that is both energizing and depressing at the same time. It has been an amazing trip but we are getting filled up on new experiences and longing for the comfort of a more familiar routine. So we have one more road trip, a night in Jodhpur and it is back to (our) reality.

The itinerary change necessitated by the cancellation of our earlier flights meant that we would have to leave Jaisalmer before the start of the annual Desert Festival, something we were looking forward to seeing at least part of. I mean, who would pass up a chance to attend a polo match where all the participants are riding camels? So we were pleasantly surprised as we left town to stumble into the very beginning of the Desert Festival parade!

Five and a half hours later we were pulling back into the courtyard of the Devi Bhawan. They even gave us our old room back which delighted Margene. (Delighting Margene is always a good thing!) Udai, our trusty driver, still planned to make it home to Udaipur that night so despite his offer to drive us around Jodhpur, we sent him off with our sincere thanks for taking such good care of us and just rented a local driver for half a day to take us up to the fort.

After a few hours touring Mehranghar Fort, we were done. An early dinner, a good nights sleep, a final bit of re-packing and we were ready to head for home.
