The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur In Italy
July 17 - Venice
Courtyard of the Doge's Palace in Venice. The Doge was an elected position but in effect was king for life of what, for awhile at least, was the seat of power in the western world. The Doge ruled Venice until Napoleon called it all off!
Some scenes from a day on the water. In the left-hand shot, the Grand Princess cruise ship(on the right) seemed remarkably out of time and place with medieval Venice. The ship on the left is a ferry from Greece. The shot on the right is the island of Murano, still water-oriented and without cars but certainly a very different feel from the "big city" of Venice.
