The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur In Italy
July 20 - Rome

Pantheon Pantheon

There really is no good way to capture the scale and splendor of the Pantheon in a single photo. The dome is huge with a circular opening at the top that spills light into the room.

Colosseum

You have seen it before ... and here it is again. The Colosseum is really an interesting structure. Here you can see the remains of the two-story understructure. There was originally a wood floor on top of all this (covered in sand to soak up the blood!) You can also see the staging for the Oedipus Rex play at the far end, along with the runway that the actors used to get onstage.
