The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur In Italy
July 22 - Rome/Umbria

Trattoria de Salvana

The ceilings tell the age of this delightful restaurant in Citta della Pieve. Excellent bruschetta -- pronounced "Bruce Ketta" please -- and a variety of dishes whose names escape me. I had a spicy pasta (as in with chilis) that I was hoping would be like the one I had in Venice. It had more fire and was less smooth, although cheese helped mellow it out. Had they done it with a little cream, it would have been right in there for me.

The local wines are excellent but apparently unnamed. We have also had several excellent bottles of Montepulciano and Amarone. I find the Amarone a little musty for my taste but am really picking up a liking for Montepulciano (which is also one of the local wine regions.) Wednesday we head out on a wine tour and I will have more wine info for you then.
