The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 15 - Venice/Vo'

A street pizza vendor in Venice. This was the first "by the slice" action I have seen on the trip. On the right is an interior shot of the little trattoria in Venice where we had lunch. The streets of Venice are a real rabbit warren of small lanes and alleys. I really wonder how many of these places can stay in business. Logistics are another interesting issue to ponder since all supplies have to be brought in -- and all trash brought out-- by boat. That would be tricky enough, but then consider that to get to the restaurant, the material has to carted on a hand truck. This often means up and down stairs to cross over smaller canals.

Lunch for Margene: pizza with white asparagus. Dinner was in another pizzeria in the town of Vo'. Elisa, the daughter of our hosts, works here.
