The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 15 - Venice/Valbona

A gondoliers work stoppage blocked the Grand Canal for awhile. This is what it looked like an hour later. Except for the usual tourist route from San Marco to the Rialto bridge, it was surprisingly uncrowded in Venice.

Businesses in St. Mark's square had to be hurting. Perhaps it is always slow at this time of year, butPart of the display in a glass factory in Murano.

We bought these two pieces. Margene and Maurizio, the glass factory salesman who helped us reduce our cash reserves!

I finally got a shot of the Castello di Valbona. The orange plastic fence keeps people from falling into the river that serves as a protective moat at the rear of the castle. I don't think there is anything here other than the two restaurants.

As the sun sets on our stay in the Veneto, we gather with Stefania, Guiliano, and Elisa (and Marv, Margene and Bill) for an unexpected evening of people-to-people connection. In the end, this is what we enjoy most about visiting other cultures. They are lovely people and we will miss them. Margene is already talking about a return trip!
