The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 16 - Ravenna/Imola

We got a late start out of Valbona, but things are closer than they seem from looking at the map and we had time to go to Ravenna to see some of their famous mosaics. From there we went to Imola, a short distance from Bologna, for dinner. We actually routed the trip to go to Imola to dine at San Domenico, reputedly one of the best restaurants in Italy. It has two Michelin stars, one of only about six such restaurants in the country. It was not the sort of place where flash photography would be appropriate, at least in the dining room, but I did manage to get some pictures of some of the food.

Suffice it to say that we were VERY high on the food chain, an interesting juxtaposition to our endless pizzas of the last few days. Their wine list is impressive and the sommelier tells me there are approximately 20,000 bottles in the cellar, some nearly 200 years old.
